Ho Ho Ho Hipcooks!

Hip Hip Hooray for 2008 - many thanks to you all for such a tasty year!  I wish you the warmest for this holiday season.

Good news - I am taking a break from setting up Hipcooks Portland and coming to LA to teach classes the second week of January 2009:

  • Veni, Vidi, Vici on Thursday, Jan 8. The osso-yummiest of Italian classes! A meal you cannot refuse.  Seared squid salad with garlic bruschetta, Osso Bucco with Gremolata, Risotto Milanese, Polenta two ways, "To die for" Tiramisu.  Hipcooks-style, with lotsa booze and shaved chocolate.
  • Jamaican Me Crazy on Friday, Jan 9. This is our Caribbean class - think Island cooking - black bean soup, plantains, jerk chicken, rum drinks. Ya, mahn! Callaloo, Mango, papaya and shrimp salad with vanilla citrus dressing,Wet-jerk marinated chicken, Black bean salad with avocado, tomato, cilantro and lime, Fried bananas with rum raisin ice cream.
  • Back by popular demand!  Perfect for the new year!   Spring into Life, Class 1 on Sat, Jan 10.
The series consists of four 5-hour workshops, co-taught by a certified nutritionist and a Hipcooks teacher.
Class 1:  Eating for Energy. Consider what your life would be like if you had an abundance of energy and vitality.  In this class we look at how food and lifestyle choices affect our health.   When, how, what should you eat?  What should you not eat?  Using a variety of techniques from traditions such as macrobiotics, Ayurveda and Chinese medicine to modern dietary theories, we help you discover the foods that are best for YOU.   We discuss: leafy greens, root veggies, fruits, fresh veggies, whole grains, dairy, dairy substitutes, fats and proteins: what they are and how a lovely Hipcook like yourself can prepare them to create delicious meals.  We'll share one of our most coveted handouts - the full-kitchen shopping list for health!
